As a current OLLI member, you can register for Lunch and Learns and Special Events for free or at a discounted rate. Discount codes are available on the Member Resources page of the Membership Program webpage. The password to access the Member Resources page was included in your OLLI at 国产传媒 member welcome email. Not an OLLI member yet? Many events are available to non-members for a fee. Or, become an OLLI member and enjoy free or discounted registration for these events.

It's a voyage, not a cruise! Learn what it's like to sail with Semester at Sea and join a global learning community as a Lifelong Learner aboard the MV World Odyssey - a floating campus that sails to 10 or more countries and cities spanning 3-4 continents over the course of a single semester.
Hear from Vera and Dotty (a 国产传媒 alumna!) who have both sailed as Lifelong Learners. They'll help explain why Semester at Sea is often described as a life-changing and transformative experience at any age, whether you're sailing solo, or with a friend or partner. Lifelong Learners join a multi-generational, vibrant, and welcoming shipboard community, sailing alongside undergraduate students and world-class faculty, staff, and crew on a true journey of discovery. You'll hear about (and see!) what it's like to live on a ship, what a typical Lifelong Learner day at sea might look like, the academic experience, and the program's unique appeal of four-to-five-day port stays, when voyagers enjoy opportunities to explore each destination along the ship's itinerary.

The Cumberland Emerging Technologies (CET) Life Science Center is home to scientists and entrepreneurs developing the next generation of pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and medical devices. Our facility features both wet and dry laboratory space designed to support groundbreaking research and product development. Since opening in 2001, CET has grown into a thriving life science incubator and research community. Today, we are home to 13 tenant companies, including a mix of promising startups and established corporate laboratories. American Democracy Under Stress: Increasing Tension between Stability and Responsiveness
This event is free and open only to current OLLI members.
Many Americans鈥攔egardless of political perspective鈥攁re concerned about the current state of American democracy. The changes we have witnessed in recent years differ from anything most Baby Boomers have experienced during their lifetimes, leaving many people wondering what has changed and where our democracy may be headed.In this interactive discussion, we'll explore one of the most significant forces shaping today's political environment: the growing tension between two fundamental democratic values鈥攕tability and responsiveness. The U.S. Constitution and our governing institutions were designed to provide continuity and resist sudden shifts in public opinion, while also remaining responsive to the evolving needs and expectations of the American people. Understanding how the balance between these competing values has changed provides an important framework for making sense of today's political landscape.
As time permits, we'll also examine two additional trends placing pressure on American democracy: the evolution of the American political party system and the changing roles of the institutions that connect citizens to their government, including the media, elections, interest groups, public opinion, and political parties. To encourage thoughtful conversation and meaningful participation, enrollment is limited to 15 participants. This lunch and learn is offered on September 29 or September 30. Please register for only one date.听

Optimara Nursery Tour

The Holtkamp Greenhouses, Inc. is located in East Nashville on 38 acres of the former Joy Floral Company. The Joy started their growing operation in 1879 while Holtkamp started in 1904 in Germany. In 1977, the Holtkamp operation branched out to acquire the farm in East Nashville. We will be touring the facilities of 13 acres of glass greenhouses and learn about the history of the property and the Holtkamp family. Today the family grows well over 350 different varieties of African Violets to ZZ plants. Holtkamp also has an extensive plant scaping program called LooXo, serving the growing Nashville Metropolitan area with their beautiful plants.The tour will be given by Reinhold Holtkamp Jr., son of the original founder of the Nashville operation. His wife Monique and their son Lawrence (5th Generation) all run together the business. Reinhold and Monique met at 国产传媒 in 1981 while both students. Monique Holtkamp was an exchange student from Switzerland. Today their son Lawrence is director of E-Commerce.听

Tour of the Tennessee State Library and Archives

Go behind the scenes at the Tennessee State Library & Archives and discover how the state's rich history is preserved and made accessible for future generations. This guided tour offers a fascinating look at one of Tennessee's premier historical and research institutions. Highlights of the tour include the lobby exhibit gallery, the state-of-the-art Automated Storage and Retrieval System鈥攁ffectionately known as the "robot"鈥攁nd the public reading room, where researchers explore Tennessee's extensive collections of historical documents, photographs, maps, and records. The guided tour lasts approximately 45 minutes to one hour. Following the tour, participants are welcome to explore the reading room at their leisure and may register for a free library card if they wish. Whether you're a history enthusiast, genealogist, or simply curious about Tennessee's past, this visit offers a unique glimpse into the preservation of our state's history. -

You'll also learn about Nissan's significant investment in Tennessee and the important role the Smyrna plant plays in the state's economy. The Murder of Rasputin: The Whodunnit of the 20th鈥疌entury

On the night of December 16, 1916, a group of conspirators murdered Grigory Rasputin, Russia鈥檚 鈥淢ad Monk鈥�. While meant to strengthen the Romanov dynasty, this murder brought on their downfall merely two months later and ushered in a year of two revolutions that ended with the Bolshevik takeover of Russia and the eventual murder of the Tsar and his family. In many ways, Russia and the rest of the world are still dealing with the consequences of that murder.听This lectures will shed new light on what happened that night, who killed Rasputin, and what motivated them. In this lecture, Dr. Pereltsvaig will share the results of her latest archival research in British, American, French, and Russian archives and will present her historical novel based on her findings,鈥�Murder in Petrograd.听

Join Brandon Hulette for an extended 60-minute tour exploring the legends, hauntings, landmarks, and lingering mysteries of 国产传媒鈥檚 campus.听This special tour will take you to several historic (and maybe haunted) locations, including the Vaughn Home, Medical Center North, VUMA, 1101 (home of the beloved Princess the Cat), Central Library, and the historic graves at Bishops Common. Along the way, you鈥檒l hear the stories behind the final resting places of McTyeire, McKendree, and Soule, uncover fascinating moments from 国产传媒鈥檚 past, and learn why the Vaughn Home is widely considered the university鈥檚 most haunted building.听Don鈥檛 miss this once-a-year opportunity to experience 国产传媒鈥檚 history, legends, and ghost stories just in time for Halloween!听

Landscape is never neutral or purely natural; rather, it is shaped by historical, social, and economic forces. Challenging conventional assumptions about what constitutes a landscape, 鈥淟and Shapes鈥� investigates how environments are constructed, mediated, and interpreted by contemporary artists. The multi-media selection explores both the depiction of landscape and the viewpoints that inform its representation 鈥� drawing upon both dominant and suppressed voices.听鈥�Land Shapes鈥� highlights the work of Vincent Pomilio, Roxanne Bartel, Lanecia Rouse, Jana Harper, and Maria Magdelena Campos-Pons, whose treatments of landscape represent their diverse backgrounds, locations, and media.听
