As lead author, Bermudez presented the paper titled, \u201cLearning implicit brain MRI manifolds with deep learning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lab, part of the 国产传媒 Institute for Surgery and Engineering (VISE), is directed by Bennett Landman, PhD, Associate Professor Department of Electrical Engineering.<\/p>\n<p>Bermudez said the feedback and conversations with other scholars after the presentation will shape how he moves forward with the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny chance to present in front of my colleagues is an opportunity for growth,\u201d Bermudez said.\u00a0 \u201cNot only do I get to improve on my ability to communicate science with each iteration, but I am exposed to new concepts and ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresenting at this conference was a great way to break down the knowledge in my mind into ideas that people can follow,\u201d he said, adding that the conference itself was inspirational. \u201cIt motivates me to continue thinking about creative science and impactful projects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>This is the first of five short stories highlighting VISE students who presented SPIE Medical Imaging 2018.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/my.vanderbilt.edu\/masi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MASI Lab<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cam Bermudez, an MD\/PhD student in the Medical-image Analysis and Statistical Interpretation (MASI) Lab, attended SPIE Medical Imaging meeting once before but 2018 was a different experience entirely.
