These goals are particularly relevant to the surgical treatment of brain tumors which often insinuate amongst critical neurologic structures. Current technology is aimed at improving visualization of deep structures in a small surgical field, and advances are being made in instrumentation that allows surgeons to work around corners. However, mediocre visual clarity, relatively inaccurate image guidance, and the lack of alternatives to traditional rigid instruments all remain major obstacles in the advancement of the field. During the course of this seminar, I will discuss the current “state of the art” in minimally invasive neurosurgery and highlight opportunities for collaborative efforts aimed at making this field safe, effective, and efficient.

ViSE Seminar Series Dream big and think small: Opportunities and challenges in minimally invasive neurosurgical oncology Thursday June 27, 2013 Location: Stevenson Center 5326; Time: 11:50 (lunch), noon (seminar start) Speaker: Lola B.
