This commitment to residential education is clearly expressed in the University\u2019s residential requirement:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAll unmarried undergraduate students are required to live in residence halls on campus during the academic year, May session, and summer\u00a0sessions. Authorization to live elsewhere is granted at the discretion of the Director of Housing Assignments in special situations or when space is unavailable on campus.\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/student_handbook\/\">Student Handbook<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Martha Rivers Ingram Commons<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Ingram Commons is part of the Residential College system. All first-year students are randomly assigned to one of the ten first-year houses on the Martha Rivers Ingram Commons. While the majority of spaces are double rooms, several of the houses contain triple rooms and a limited number of single rooms.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/ohare\/our-residence-halls\/\">View more information about the houses here<\/a><span style=\"color: #006682\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>First-Year Student Housing Application<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The First-Year Student Housing Application will be available in the <a href=\"https:\/\/vanderbilt.datacenter.adirondacksolutions.com\/VANDERBILT_THDSS_PROD\/\">Housing Portal<\/a> beginning <strong>Monday, April 6 at 8 a.m. CDT<\/strong>.\u00a0 Applications are due by Monday, June 1 at 6 p.m. CDT.\u00a0 All incoming first-year students are required to submit an application.<\/p>\n<p>IMPORTANT:\u00a0 Prior to accessing the Housing Portal, you must complete the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/welcome\/accessing-university-systems\/\">Create your VUnetID<\/a> and set up your password<\/li>\n<li>Set up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/cybersecurity\/services\/onevu\/onevu-training-faqs\/\">Okta multi-factor authentication<\/a> from a computer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once completing these steps, please allow up to five (5) business days before attempting to log into the Housing Portal.\u00a0 If you are unable to access the Housing Portal after five (5) business days, please contact <a href=\"mailto:housing@vanderbilt.edu\">Housing.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Steps for Completing Your Application<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Visit to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/ohare\">Housing website<\/a> on a <strong>computer<\/strong> (not your cell phone).<\/li>\n<li>Click on the Housing Portal link.<\/li>\n<li>Log in using your VUnetID and password.\u00a0 (If you receive a message noting an invalid password, please try again in five (5) business days.)<\/li>\n<li>Authenticate via Okta.<\/li>\n<li>Once in the Housing Portal, click on the Applications and Forms menu.<\/li>\n<li>Select the First-Year Housing Application.<\/li>\n<li>Review and sign your 2026-2027 housing contract.<\/li>\n<li>After signing your housing contract, you will be redirected to sign up for renter\u2019s insurance with <a href=\"https:\/\/nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ft.e2ma.net%2Fclick%2Ftarsmh%2Flo8c6xhb%2Ftum69m&amp;data=05%7C02%7Cashley.m.ladyman%40vanderbilt.edu%7C3f4937af5d334ca7162b08dc0fd4649a%7Cba5a7f39e3be4ab3b45067fa80faecad%7C0%7C0%7C638402652100667175%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=p48w93aY%2BXttTDZ1Mn5Y9DA50avU2BZ6cxRfUPWq%2Fqk%3D&amp;reserved=0\" data-name=\"GradGuard\" data-type=\"url\"><strong>GradGuard<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 If you prefer to use a different insurance provider, you will have the option to decline coverage. Once you either purchase or decline coverage with GradGuard, you will be redirected back to the Housing Portal to complete your application.<\/li>\n<li>Complete your brief lifestyle questionnaire.<\/li>\n<li>Submit your application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>First-Year Student Roommates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>国产传媒&#8217;s first-year roommate matching process considers students&#8217; responses on our lifestyle questionnaire in an effort to foster meaningful connections. We believe that institutional matching &#8211; which prioritizes purposeful roommate pairing over self-selection based on pre-existing relationships &#8211; empowers personal growth and creates vibrant residential communities. This approach reflects our commitment to building a supportive living and learning environment where students can develop as individuals and feel welcomed within an inclusive campus community.<\/p>\n<p>First-year students are permitted to submit a same-sex roommate request and can do so upon submission of their housing application in the Housing Portal. \u00a0Prior to requesting a specific roommate, students are encouraged to have open and frank conversations regarding living habits and preferences.\u00a0 Requests must be mutual for consideration.\u00a0 Please note we cannot guarantee that roommate requests will be honored.\u00a0 All roommate requests must be submitted by Monday, June 15.<\/p>\n<p>Students with two (2) roommate requests who are interested in residing together in a triple room must email their request to <a href=\"housing@vanderbilt.edu\" class=\"broken_link\">Housing<\/a> via their 国产传媒 email.\u00a0 Please copy all requested roommates on your email message.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>First-Year Student Move In &amp; Important Dates<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.2rem\">Room assignment information will be e-mailed to all incoming first-year students on or around August 1, 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>First-year student move in will take place on <strong>Saturday, August 22, 2026<\/strong>. Students will be provided with a specific move-in time between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. with their room assignment information.\u00a0 <span style=\"font-size: 1.2rem\">Prior to move-in day, we will be preparing the halls for your arrival and as a result, will not be able to accommodate early move-in requests. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.2rem\">Please plan your travel to Nashville accordingly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>First-year international students should plan to move in on <strong>Wednesday, August 19, 2026 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. CDT<\/strong> to participate in the <strong>required<\/strong> International Student Orientation (ISO).\u00a0 Questions about ISO should be directed to <a href=\"mailto:commons@vanderbilt.edu\">commons@vanderbilt.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As you plan for travel throughout the academic year, please consult our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/ohare\/housing-important-dates\/\">Important Housing Dates website<\/a> for residence hall opening and closing dates as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/registrar.vanderbilt.edu\/calendars\/\">University Academic Calendar<\/a>.\u00a0 Information regarding break housing is available on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanderbilt.edu\/ohare\/break_housing\/\">Break Housing website<\/a>. Please contact <a href=\"mailto:housing@vanderbilt.edu\">Housing<\/a> if you have any questions regarding upcoming dates.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Student Renter&#8217;s Insurance Requirement<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>As noted in the Housing Contract, the University is not liable for damage to property or injuries arising out of a resident\u2019s occupancy of their assigned rooms, except if such damage or injury results from negligent acts or omissions by the University.<\/p>\n<p>As a resident, you are liable to the University and others for loss or damage caused by your actions or those of your guests. You are required to maintain adequate property and liability insurance that includes the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Personal Property Insurance: covering the students belongings while on campus, with a limit adequate to repair or replace the student\u2019s personal property in the event of loss, damage, or theft.<\/li>\n<li>Personal Liability Insurance: with a limit no less than $100,000 and include coverage for student caused water damage or fire damage to adjacent spaces.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These insurance requirements are minimum requirements only. The university does not warrant or represent that this coverage will be adequate or sufficient to protect you or your guests from liability. We recommend that you discuss your specific insurance needs with an authorized insurance agent. Required insurance may be provided by a standalone Renter\u2019s Insurance Policy or by endorsement or extension from a Homeowners Insurance Policy maintained by you or by a Parent\/Guardian\/Family Member.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fully compliant renters\u2019 insurance may be obtained from:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gradguard.com\/renters\/vanderbilt\">GradGuard Insurance<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/urmiastudentproperty.ajg.com\/\">URMIA Student Property Insurance<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Official<\/b><strong>\u00a0Notice<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Admission to the University does not guarantee assignment to a particular type of room, residence hall, or area of campus. First-year students may be assigned to singles, doubles, or triples. Further, the University population is fluid, and demand for housing may change considerably in a relatively short time.
