Based on James Baldwin\u2019s\u00a0unfinished book on the lives and assassination of Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther\u00a0King, Jr. Peck\u2019s Oscar-nominated documentary uses archival footage and Baldwin\u2019s own\u00a0words to bring these stories to the screen. Peck unfolds the history of the Civil Rights\u00a0movement suggesting the deep connections to the present of #BlackLivesMatter. I Am Not\u00a0Your Negro is also a meditation on Hollywood\u2019s

This colorful film imaginatively explores the\u00a0cultural basis of the Russian Revolution. When Stalin built a town in northern USSR on the\u00a0land of indigenous shamans in the 1930s, he mistakenly generated a landmark collision of\u00a0cultures now known as the Great Samoyedic
\nWar. Russian avant-gardists from the South,\u00a0led by the legendary Communist fighter, \u201cPolina the Revolutionary,\u201d trek up to the banks of the\u00a0Amnya River eager to reconcile a Soviet utopia with the ideals of Ancient Paganism of the native peoples. Russian\/Khanty with English subtitles. 113 min.<\/p>\n

This event will be followed by panel discussion on Friday, October 20, to reflect on the repercussions of
\nthe Russian Revolution from its immediate aftermath to contemporary Russia.<\/p>\n
